Dag 1

Arrival in Thessaloniki

Upon arrival to Thessaloniki Airport, your guide will be waiting for you. Board your private AC bus and travel to the region of west Macedonia, to the region of Vasilitsa, very close to the National Reserve of Valia Calda, in the Pindos Mountain Range.

En route visit in case time allows :

a.Archaeological site of Vergina (UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE) the burial site of the kings of Macedonia, including the tomb of Philip II, father of Alexander the Great or

b. Epanomi Gerovasilou Winery.

The region we are visiting Vasilitsa is because of the mushrooms that grow abundantly in the region (2000 varieties have been identified in the region).

In the evening we will follow a speech –seminar related to the mushrooms of Pindos accompanied by a delicious mushroom dinner!

Dag 2

Mushroom and exploration day:

After breakfast we depart for a walk in the forest for a mushrooms quest. Specialized guides will help us to identify, categorize and collect the appropriate mushrooms.

After our walk we will visit the most authentic collages of the region, meet the locals and savor their specialties.

Later on we will visit a workshop where wild mushrooms are being processed and enjoy a dinner

Dag 3

Drive to Mt.Pelion

Pelion, the famous land of the Centaurs and home to some of the most picturesque and beautiful images in all of Greece. With its beautiful sandy beaches scattered around the coastline, and the dominating presence of the famous Mount Pelion, this truly is a region which you can visit any time of the year. We will arrive early in the evening and leave the rest of the day free to relax.

Dinner at a restaurant with traditional pies, roasted meat and local delicacies.

Dag 4

After a breakfast with homemade marmalades and pies we depart for our tour in the forest. We collect seeds and leaves and in our return we identify them and we learn about their special qualities. Our tour to the forest is magical and different every season of the year. The forest: rich verdant woods comprising of oak, plane and chestnut trees and abundant flowing water. The woods are also rich in pharmaceutical herbs.

From ancient times Greeks knew the herbs and all their characteristics. They knew their therapeutic power and also knew how to use them. “Centaurs Chiron” and “Asclepius” the God of Medicine, used to live according to the myth in this impressive beautiful mountain.

Nowadays, several herbs like marigold, malva, chamomile, mint, levanter and many others are cultivated and we can have pure products which are useful for face and body treatments.

In the forest according to the season we will also collect wild fruits and prepare sweets. A wild raspberry tart can ideally accompany our dinner. We return to a workshop restaurant in order to learn how to make traditional Greek pies and cook local herbs.

Lunch with local “meze” dishes and “tsipouro” a special Greek drink made from grapes.

Relax, coffee in the village and return to the restaurant were we are going to learn how to prepare home liquor and sweets of the spoon and talk about aromatotherapy with a specialist.

We will visit an olive mill and we will see how olive oil is produced in its different stages. We will also taste different olive oils.

Dag 5

Depart early in the morning to Athens – arrival rest of the day free to walk to the historic district of Plaka, underneath the Acropolis.

Dag 6

Morning visit to the Acropolis and then : Introduction to the Mediterranean cuisine

We will walk to the central food market of Athens where we will see, smell and experience the atmosphere of the fish, meat and fruit stalls.

We will then walk via the old district of Plaka to Mesogaia store. Here the friendly owner will offer you a selection of Greek organic delicacies to taste and an insight talk on Greek Mediterranean produce.

More specifically we will try:

• Different varieties of oil and olives

• Cheese from different areas of Greece

• Typical Greek appetizers

• Wine and ouzo

• Greek yogurt with honey

At the end you will be given a leaflet with information on the products that you tasted during our introductory Mediterranean cuisine tour.

The Mesogaia Store

The Mesogaia Store has been awarded for two consecutive years as the best Greek grocery store in Athens, by the Gourmet Magazine.

Mesogaia is renowned for merchandising the best olive oil in Athens, due to a great variety of olive oils that promotes exclusively.

Dag 7

Aegina – cooking program

Departure from Athens and transfer from the Hotel to Piraeus port in order to get on board to the hydrofoil to Aegina Island. The boat ride takes aprox. 40 minutes. Arrival to Aegina Island.

We will visit and shop from the fish market and the meat market and also the greengrocers. From each market we will buy the ingredients we need for our lessons later on.

After the shopping transfer to a Villa by bus (clients will have to walk from the point that the bus leave them-aprox 3-4 minutes’ walk to the villa)

Arrival at the villa and explanation of the cooking lessons and preparation of lunch.

Menu:

• Cheese pie

• Stuffed tomatoes, pepers and eggplants

• Aubergines with tomato sauce, feta cheese, egg sauce in the oven.

• Octopus in wine

• Fillet of red mullets with lemon sauce and safran

• Tomato salad

• Fillet of veal with fresh tomato sauce and mashed eggplant

• Deserts

• “Baklavas” with pistachios

• Chalvas

• Season fruits with yoghurt and honey





There will be English recipes available for everybody use. They can take it with them back home.

In the afternoon transfer to Aegina port by bus in order to get on board at the hydrofoil to Piraeus.

Transfer to our hotel in Athens.

Dag 8

Transfer to the airport for departure.
