Day 1 – Porto Arrive in Porto and embark on the ship. The Douro River is flanked by two cities – Vila Nova de Gaia and Porto. The ship is docked on the Vila Nova de Gaia side. Relax or explore either city on your own before the welcome cocktail and dinner on board.
Day 2 – Porto-Régua-Pinhão Departure at breakfast time for a morning sailing through the lovely countryside. Arrive in Peso da Régua, the heart of the Port Wine production region, in the beginning of the afternoon. Departure for an optional tour to visit the 18th-century Casa de Mateus palace gardens, one of the finest examples of baroque architecture in Portugal. This spectacular house is a delight to visit, as are its romantic grounds that feature a unique long cedar tunnel and formal gardens Mateus Palace and Gardens. The venue for dinner this evening is the beautiful Vintage House Hotel, located at the heart of Pinhão. With all public and private areas overlooking the river, that calmly strolls towards the ocean, the Vintage House offers its visitors a unique experience. The ship overnights in Pinhão.
Day 3 –Pinhão-Vega Terron In the morning, free time to explore the beautiful village of Pinhão. Before joining the ship to sail past the terraced vineyards and stands of almond trees on a leisurely afternoon journey to Vega Terron, enjoy a wine tasting at the Vintage House Wine Academy. The ship overnights at Vega Terron.
Day 4 – Vega de Terron-Salamanca- Barca d’Alva Travel by coach from Vega de Terron to Salamanca for a full day optional tour with lunch. Salamanca, a UNESCO World Heritage City, is famous for its 13th century university and its unusual twin-towered Cathedral. Enjoy lunch in a local restaurant and take part on a beautiful show after . Later, explore the Plaza Mayor, one of the most beautiful squares in Spain. Return to the ship for dinner. The evening onboard entertainment features a traditional Spanish flamenco show. Overnight in Barca d’Alva.
Day 5 – Barca d’Alva-PinhãoSpend the morning at the Optional tour to Figueira Castelo Rodrigo. Known as the “white village” has become the capital of the country in the first half of 19th century when Castelo Rodrigo lost its importance. It was created by inhabitants of the nearby parish of Castelo Rodrigo that had left the upland of the mountain where the parish stands and settled in the flat area which had better natural conditions to survive as for instance the abundance of water. After lunch, enjoy a relaxed afternoon sailing towards Pinhão.. In the evening, enjoy an onboard performance by a local Portuguese folk dancing group. Overnight at Pinhão.
Day 6 – Lamego-Bitetos Sail to Régua, arriving after breakfast. Disembark for an optional shore excursion to Lamego, one of the most attractive cities in Portugal. Visit the famous baroque church, Nossa Senhora dos Remédios, located high above the city. You are free to shop in this delightful city or to visit its interesting museum. Lunch on board and afternoon cruise down the Douro to Bitetos. The 14th-century former Monastery of Alpendurada is the venue for this evening’s dinner. Before dinner, enjoy a tour in the monastery as you take in the breathtaking views of the river below. The ship overnights in Bitetos.
Day 7 – Bitetos-Porto After a leisurely morning cruise, arrive in Porto at lunchtime. Located on Penaventosa hill, above the Douro River, Porto is the second largest city in Portugal. During the afternoon, optional tour to the wealth of historic sites in the city and explore the steep medieval lanes and alleys in the old town. Enjoy a farewell cocktail and dinner on board.
Day 8 – Porto Your holiday comes to an end after breakfast.
